„We believe this contract extension is good for both Verizon and our employees and will allow us to continue to focus on our customers without diverting attention from collective agreements expiring in 2019,“ Marc Reed, Verizon`s chief administrative officer, said in a statement to employees. Verizon has reached an interim agreement with the Communications Workers of America (CWA) and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) for a four-year extension of a current contract that covers more than 34,000 workers. The extensions provide for additional wage increases and improved pensions. The deal, which extends the contracts until August 5, 2023, will result in an 11.2 percent pay increase over the next four years and will cover more than 34,000 Verizon employees, including call center agents and central and field technicians. In an email to employees, Verizon said it was „pleased that these agreements have been ratified.“ The agreement extended the contract until August 5, 2023. Separate agreements have also been approved to cover some of Verizon`s retail employees in New York and Pennsylvania, the union said. „This agreement ensures a better future and good family support jobs for thousands of Verizon workers,“ said Dennis Trainor, CWA District 1 Vice President. „Since the end of the 2016 strike, we have seen a marked improvement in the relationship between CWA and Verizon, and this agreement reflects the more constructive relationship that has developed since then.“ The contract expired in August 2019 and includes call centre employees as well as central and external technicians represented by the unions. By mutual agreement, negotiations on the renewal of the contract were limited to salaries and social benefits as well as the duration of the new agreement, according to the CWA. After the 2016 strike, Verizon agreed to add 1,300 new call center jobs on the East Coast and reverse several outsourcing initiatives, according to the CWA. The four-year agreement also includes a first contract for Verizon wireless retail employees in Brooklyn, New York.

„This agreement builds on the success of the 2016 strike and will ensure a better future and good family-supporting jobs for thousands of Verizon workers,“ said Dennis Trainor, vice president of CWA District 1. . . .
